Box Office Predictions: Dolphins Should Swim Away With Lots of Cash

After some slower weekends at the box office, two new releases (And a third potential one depending on final theater counts) aim to liven things up. They should be successful in this mission, but let's take a look at these new movies and their chances at box office glory.

Finally, there's some new releases worth talking about, including the first movie in two months to be aimed at families, 2 Dolphin 2 Tale. This inspiring story is a sequel to a reasonably well-liked film, but would probably just do underwhelming business any other time of the year. However, there's absolutely no competition in the family film market, so it should wind up doing great and getting past $20 million. Can we expect an epic trilogy out of this story? Maybe, especially if this thing holds up well over the month.
No Good Deed also opens up this weekend, and I hear the big twist in this film is that it will wind up doing solid business at the box office. The two leads are a bit more well-known than you'd expect, and ads have highlighted their presence paired with some thrilling moments. It might not get to $20 million, but it won't be far off. Can't imagine this one is too expensive to make, so expect this one to be a nice moneymaker for Screen Gems.
I think The Drop is going wide this weekend, and if it does, it should do alright. I doubt it'll break records or anything, but like Dolphin Tale 2, a lack of competition should help this one do a bit better than usual. It's the first new release I'm seeing in a theater in two-and-a-half-weeks, so that should tell you something right there. Yeah, this should do solid enough business, I'm thinking a $5,000 per theater average for its opening weekend.
As for the holdovers, well, Guardians of The Galaxy will finally relinquish its box office crown, but don't worry about that movie, it's still looking to cross $300 million this weekend. Let's Be Cops should hold on well, while Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles may or may not get one more weekend in the Top 5, it's just gonna depend on how wide of an opening weekend release The Drop gets.
Below are my opening weekend and total gross predictions for this weekends new releases, as well as my box office top 5 predictions.
