Homegrown By Zac Brown Band Review

As country music continues to evolve into the new year of 2015, some interesting trends are starting to form. Bro-country is far from gone, but ballads driven by pathos from the likes of Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood have managed to top the country music charts all during January. Those kind of tunes managing to find dominance amongst the world of country music is encouraging to see, especially since it seems to be helping the newest tune from the Zac Brown Band find gigantic commercial success.

I've been a huge fan of the Zac Brown Band ever since their first tune Chicken Fried debuted. These guys had a more traditional, simple arrangement to their songs both vocally and instrumentally, and it really made them stand out from the pack. Their latest single, entitled Homegrown, did have me worried at first, since it's lyrical content seemed to resemble their 2012 track No Hurry, which similarly covered the track of being content in the world.

Territory may be retread here, but it's hard to argue with such a tactic when it creates such an enjoyable song. Zac Brown, who both wrote and sings this tune, conjures up an attitude of satisfaction without coming across as arrogant, a feat helped by lyrics that utilize a straightforward, yet effective chorus find, while finding time to advocate for the pleasures of simplifying one's life to "..a piece of land...and a good lookin' woman with her arms around me."

Actually, simplicity is perhaps the films best asset. It isn't the most ambitious song from this band, but that kind of approach fits and reinforces the songs ultimate message of appreciating "good friends...here in a small town that feels like home"..Toss in a wide array of pleasing sounding instruments, namely a guitar and a fiddle, and the song becomes an easy one to listen to on repeat. Chalk this one up as another example of both country musics constant evolution and the excellent track record of the Zac Brown Band.
