Sarah Palin Attempts To Stay Relevant By Praising American Sniper While Spewing Some Insults

Did you see how much American Sniper took in this past weekend? My God, I had a hunch the movie would do well, but $106 million over one four-day weekend? Insane stuff that not only reveals January as an effective place to launch a mega-successful feature, but also has opened the floodgates for praise for the Clint Eastwood directed feature. The film received an A+ Cinemascore grade from audiences this weekend, which means of course plenty of words of praise are on the way from audiences seeing it.
Thus, it was no surprise to me when I saw Deadline run an article talking about Sarah Palin praising the feature. Oh God, remember the age when Sarah Palin was everywhere in 2008? Every sentence she said become an instant soundbite, while Tina Feys impeccable impersonation of her assured Sarah Palins massive presence in 2008 pop culture. Years later, she's become a punchline, not because of her politics (though I freely admit that I'm on the complete opposite side of many of her political opinions), but rather because she had a knack for constantly conjuring up hyperbolic and mean-spirited comments that make her perfect fodder for late-night hosts and people on Facebook who take such phrases as some kind of gospel.

And now, here she is, spouting about American Sniper on Facebook:
God bless our troops, especially our snipers.
Hollywood leftists: while caressing shiny plastic trophies you exchange among one another while spitting on the graves of freedom fighters who allow you to do what you do, just realize the rest of America knows you’re not fit to shine Chris Kyle’s combat boots.
May the epic “American Sniper” bring nothing but blessings to Taya and the children of this true American hero.
Thank you Bradley Cooper and Clint Eastwood for respecting the United States Military.
– Sarah Palin

Wow, um, yeah, that's...interesting. I'm honestly more amused than anything else by this statement, which just seems so over-the-top. What I find interesting is that she's got the opportunity in this post to say something meaningful. She attacks the Oscars in this post, which I hoped she'd be doing in order to bring up the lack of diversity found in genres and ethnicity of the nominees at the ceremony that prevents excellent filmmaking from being recognized. Instead, she somehow feels like the existence of the Oscars means people in Hollywood that have more left-leaning politics spit on the graves of soldiers. Where does that even come from? It just feels random and arrogant, two adjectives that do a nice job of covering Palin's career in politics.

For anyone else, this would be the kind of rambling and jumbling of words that would make me worried about a persons mental health. Instead, it's par for the course for Sarah Palin, a woman who has previously supported the action of asking where Obama's birth certificate is  and is against same sex marriage. No shocker she's used the opportunity of American Snipers success to attempt to extend her relevance. Oh Sarah, you hateful, patronizing, bigoted rascal! What won't you do or say next? Whatever it is, I'm sure it'll follow your past actions and have no semblance of coherency to it.
